Blockseminar: "Palestine to Israel, Urban Change, Heritage and History"

Dr. Tawfiq Da'adli (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem)

09.12.2022 – 17.12.2022

Dr. Tawfiq Da'adli ist im Wintersemester 2022/23 Gastprofessor für Arabisch-Israelische Koexistenz und bietet folgendes Blockseminar an:

Palestine to Israel, Urban Change, Heritage and History

This seminar will focus on the study of local urban history under different regimes. We will explore Palestinian cities and towns through mid-nineteenth century until mid-twentieth century. Here the coastal cities like Jaffa and Haifa will stand against the mountain ones, Jerusalem and Nablus. We will explore urban transformation through local indigenous agents and by imperial and central ones. We will deal with inquiries such as: What effects did those two poles have on the ground? What is the effect of modern planning on such sites? How do different regimes cope with the past and its remains? The six-session block seminar will introduce various towns and cities through the periods, discuss methods studying local history and study the history of the country through the late Ottoman Empire, British Mandate and early State of Israel.

Die Teilnehmerzahl ist auf 15 Personen beschränkt.

Die Veranstaltung ist für Studierende der Judaistik und des Instituts für den Nahen und Mittleren Osten anrechenbar.
