The Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has carefully created a self-image as "Mr. Security" during his decades of political activity. However, the Netanyahu era has seen unprecedented civil-military tensions. Retired generals and former heads of the Mossad and Shin Bet intelligence agencies have publicly rejected both his leadership and his policies. Drawing on dozens of interviews, this lecture addresses the tension between Netanyahu's image and his complicated ongoing relations with the Israeli security establishment.
