Title of Project:  Rhetoric and Performance in the works of Irving (Yitz) Greenberg, Yeshayahu Leibowitz and Ovadia Yosef

Abstract: A common presumption is that a philosophical or theological written text contains everything its author wants to express to his or her audience. This project wishes to enrich the methodologies in the study of modern Jewish theology, by introducing a new praxis-oriented hermeneutical key. This fresh hermeneutical approach weaves together concepts from the sub-fields of Rhetoric, Orality, and Performance theory. Using oral visual material to supplement the text based inquiry, a new understanding of Greenberg, Yosef and Leibowitz will emerge.
