Dissertation Topic: Zionism within the political debates of Germany, 1897-1933

Abstract: With the first Zionist Congress of Basel in 1897 Zionism entered the stage of world policy and became noticeable for a broader and non-Jewish public. My thesis is on the analysis of Zionism as a subject in political debates, i.e. the political reception of Zionism by non-Jews or in non-Jewish, general policy contexts. My research focuses on Zionism as the subject of a non-Jewish audience as well as on the influence of the presence of a Jewish nationalist “minority within the minority” on the broader relationship with Jews. I am an associate fellow of the International Research Training Group "Religious Cultures in the 19th- and 20th century Europe."
