Derek Penslar is Samuel J. Zacks Chair in Jewish History at the University of Toronto and Stanley Lewis Professor of Israel Studies Professor at Oxford University. From the fall of 2016 he will be the inaugural William B. Frost Professor of Modern Jewish History at Harvard University. He teaches and studies the history of Zionism and the State of Israel from a comparative perspective. His most recent books are Israel in History: The Jewish State in Comparative Perspective (2006) and Jews and the Military: A History (2015).
